Monday Recruiting Motivation: Find Success In Your Failures And Try Again

It is hard to remain optimistic in these times.  Even if you are succeeding, you have to wonder and have concern for those that cannot seem to get their business going or are struggling to keep it alive.  Many are looking for work and taking what they can find no matter how below their old pay grade.  Tim and I decided to start RecruitingDaily.com to provide information we picked up over the years to those in the industry for free.  We also wanted to do it in the worst economic recession in history because we thought it would help.

Quite a few people have found success in the worst of times.  And I really do believe that the true test of character is how we act when when times are tough, not when we are succeeding.  Bill Gates started Microsoft in a recession.  And many others succeeded after many failures but never gave up.  I hope you enjoy this video.  It reminds me that no matter what age, training, skills, or timing:  anyone can still succeed.  Have a great week, work closest to the placements you have, and think positive every day.  Good things are coming your way.

How the Recession Affects the Hiring Industry

How the Recession Affects the Hiring Industry »

It is not a stretch to suggest that the state of the economy and the state of the hiring industry are tightly correlated. Generally speaking, when the economy goes on the fritz, hiring tends to follow it out the door. On a macro level, examining how a recession impacts the hiring industry appears to be an exercise in the obvious. However, the hiring industry is more than just the sum of employment figures generated by the government at the end of the month.

Demand for Engineering Graduates Grows as Recruitment Bounces Back

Demand for Engineering Graduates Grows as Recruitment Bounces Back »

Engineering and technology businesses are taking a more confident approach to recruitment in 2010 than in 2009, suggesting that the sector is beginning to recover from the recession. In a survey of 400 organisations carried out by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), 41% said they were planning to recruit new engineering and technical staff over the next twelve months, up from 22% in 2009 and back to similar levels to the 2008 figure of 40%.

LinkedIn InStant Search: Hackday Winner #recruiting with #in

Quick, relevant and in Beta. What else can you ask for when looking for another solid application to help crowd your day? This one might help you be a little more efficient when searching your LinkedIn network. It’s been a round for a bit, but is little known and talked about in recruiting.

Do you subscribe? You should, we give away really cool things for free: Click to Subscribe

LinkedIn is an innovator right? Like most other companies looking to not just attract but retain serous talent, LinkedIn allows it’s team, it’s users and developers to be creative. Back in 2007 you may remember  “Hackday” or at least some buzz about it. Recently LinkedIn (according to their blog) has implemented the whole company, a panel of judges and some serious bragging rights to internal hackers.

You get 2 minutes to present your hack and answer rapid fire questions from the panel of judges.

I like this hack. It’s called Instant search. It’s in beta and you cannot use IE, but it’s got some very nice potential. *disclaimer* – I have not tested the tool for a prolonged period but enough to know I like it.

Pros:
  • Fast results, instant results
  • Nicely displayed
  • Not the same old static feel

Cons:

  • Not 100% there yet on the search capacity (It was not successful thus far for me, using the same searches I use both on the open web to xray or LinkedIn search features)
  • The returned results do not always match my criteria, for the “current” position, though as you open the target profile the candidate typically has been in that location or worked for the company etc.
  • When you return to your results page you lose your search criteria, as it is not hard written to the page (as of 10-24)
  • If your search displays 96 results you cannot see them all unless I am missing something.

With all of this, the idea is sharp and I like it. I am looking forward to following future releases.
