Recruiting Daily is back with another installment of our popular ‘Tips From A Biller” feature. Each month we sit down with some of the most influential recruiters and recruiting managers in the business and learn a bit about their keys to achieving success.
This week the focus is on healthcare and we had the opportunity to speak with one of the Vice Presidents of Comphealth– John Giglietta.
First a bit of background information about CompHealth; founded in 1979, CompHealth, a CHG Healthcare Services company, is one of the countries leading providers of temporary physician staffing (also known as locum tenens) and physician permanent placement services. The company is also a leading provider of temporary and permanent allied health staffing. CompHealth has offices throughout the in the United States and John Giglietta is the Vice President of the Norwalk, CT. office.
RD: John – can you share a bit about your recruiting background?
Giglietta: I started at CompHealth in 2000 and worked a desk in the pediatric group for 5 months. I was later promoted to a billing manager in the primary care group, responsible for a team of 4 consultants. In 2003 I was promoted to manager over the pediatric and general surgery teams. At the end of 2003 I was promoted to VP over the entire office.
RD: A career path that clearly demonstrates the success you had at running a productive desk. What was the best advice you ever received from a fellow recruiter?
Giglietta: Our Business requires a unique skill set. In order to master you must have desire and passion to succeed, confidence in your ability and stick with it. Be open to being critiqued- learn and then apply.
RD: You’re most rewarding experience running a desk?
Giglietta: I placed a cardiologist in a neighboring town that 2 years later saved the life of my father-in-law.
RD: Now that is an amazing placement. Do you have a tip or advice that you could share with a recruiter?
Giglietta: When negotiating fees- demonstrate your worth. Show value in your service.
RD: And lastly, if not recruiting- you would rather be?
Giglietta: On a Caribbean island selling Jet ski tours.
I have a feeling that Mr. Giglietta would find a lot of success in that arena as well. We would like to thank him for his time and also share one parting sentiment that he expressed- which is a recruiter should always do the right thing. A philosophy that can not only help recruiters at their desks, but in life as well.
