Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with over 40 corporate recruiters from more than 30 companies that are Fortune 500, 100, and privately held. Some of the top recruiting forces in the nation, possibly the world, participated in conversation around the topics of hiring trends, employer branding, and onboarding, to name a few.
I’ll admit it: I’m probably somewhere in the running to becoming LinkedIn’s #1 Fan. I’ve even been known to call LinkedIn “my new best friend” from time to time. Why? In the professional world, LinkedIn can open up a wide range of opportunities.
So you’ve decided to start up a temporary/contract staffing company, and you would like to know what’s involved in ensuring success in your new venture. To follow are 10 tips for making your new venture a success.
The job market, particularly for recent grads, is ghastly. So when you finally get an interview, your first reaction is likely to be elation rather than skepticism.
The most common daily production tool is now the Smartphone. It is hard to remember that just 10 years ago we were lucky to have a laptop that we could use for remote work. You cannot go anywhere today without seeing someone staring into a Smartphone. At traffic lights, on highways, elevators, on dates, well, you get the point. And this technology has its strengths and weaknesses of course. Being always connected can be a distraction. How many of you cite social media recruiting while checking your friend’s Facebook photos? And Farmville?…wow. It can impact your productivity by distraction while also destroying your precious downtime when unplugging from the world is sometimes a must. But that is another post altogether.
I know that the only way I can manage my current businesses is with a great Smartphone. My blackberry is the first Smartphone I ever had so I am by all means a newbie (2 years in). But the ability to receive emails from all sources, text, IM, tweet, and post to RecruitingDaily from anywhere is a must. Some of the newest devices already are enticing me to get out and upgrade. Yes, my phone is for taking calls. And sometimes I use it for that, I swear! But what I really love is that I am able to have multiple numbers forwarded to it, documents sent and filed back to my database for neat candidates and client profiles at my desk.
Here are my top 10 most used technologies for recruiting:
Medical Solutions, Inc., a nationwide Travel Nurse and Travel Therapy staffing company is proud to announce its inclusion in the Staffing Industry Analysts, Inc. list of the fastest-growing private staffing companies in the country for the third consecutive year.
With $130 billion in federal money headed for the US economy , the demand for engineering staff will be enormous and competition for that talent will rage . Whether it’s for designing new water systems, transit lines, highways or bridges, federal stimulus spending will see a massive change in how engineering staffing models are employed and utilized by the construction and building design industries
Want to start with a disclaimer here: this is only my second blog post, so bear with me. It’s a little bit scary, actually, but if there’s one thing that doesn’t bother me, it’s opening up to the world (as many of you probably know). My problem isn’t knowing what to say about the future of recruiting, it’s where to start. See, I’m a recruiter by trade, so this stuff is in my DNA.
Chemistry between two individuals is another gray area that can be equally difficult to explain. In the context of a job interview, how is it you can have two candidates with comparable backgrounds, experience and skill sets: one the client loves while the other they could care less if they ever see again.
Customer service in medical staffing is a sleeping giant that often times is the killer of giant medical staffing firms. The killer creeps in slowly, gently and harvests its seed in the minds of your clients and flourishes often in the headsets of a disgruntled employee.
Well Recruiters- August is here! A new month alone can at times get you motivated, but Recruiting Daily wanted to provide a bit more inspiration for you on this Monday morning. Well with just a bit of help from U2.
It is uncanny on how you can hear a song hundreds of times, but add into the mix the right people and the right time and it all appears to come together perfectly. The very same can be said about your recruiting desk. This is the start of a new month and with a focused drive and goals set- it will all come together perfectly.
Make your desk pay off on all the hard work you put into it day after day, and be sure to always be working closest to the deal.
It is not easy recruiters, but with a plan in place it will only get better.
I search for inspiration everyday. Sometimes I find it in my kids eyes. Sometimes in quiet time. Sometimes when I am reading. I am a frequent reader of several blogs in addition to RD. And below is one of my favorites. Take this simple repost reminder and enjoy…Originally posted by Leo Babauta of Zenhabits.net
We all make excuses.
But the successful ones are those who can kill the excuses like the miserable maggots they are.
I’m too tired. I don’t have the time. I don’t feel motivated. I’d rather do nothing. I don’t have the money, equipment, space. I can’t because …
We’ve all made the excuses. Here’s how to kill them.
If you didn’t see it, Old Spice ran a great marketing campaign last week. Through social media platforms, they asked fans to send in questions for the Old Spice guy (who appears in their commercials) and within 24 hours created over 100 video responses to the best questions they received. This is the best example I’ve seen to date of a brand engaging with their customers and fans in a personalized way.
Your next boss might want to know more than your last one about your personality, thought processes, motivations, work style, values and aptitude for the job. Or perhaps she just needs to screen out three-quarters of the applicants quickly.
