In my post on Recruiting Technology Top Ten I received good feedback from many sources and had more than one conversation on one item in particular, the Applicant Tracking System or ATS.  There is perhaps no greater discussed and debated topic on recruiting forums.  An ATS can make our days easy, our lives move with less stress, and increase our production.  They can also cost us too much money, be hard to manipulate, and make us feel like we work for them.

So we decided to create a wish list for all ATS’s that would make our recruiting lives simpler.

Layoffs and Budget Cuts Have Made Recruiting Tougher for U.S. Firms »

The use of layoffs as a cost-saving measure by U.S. employers during the economic crisis has had an adverse affect on their remaining employees and now, it may be preventing them from attracting critical recruits as they try to rebound. A survey released Tuesday by consulting firm Towers Watson (TW) found that 52% of U.S. companies reported problems attracting critical-skill employees, and 45% had trouble attracting top-tier talent, largely because leaner workforces offer fewer opportunities for advancement, and because many workers are reluctant to join companies that do not clearly show stability and a commitment to their employees.

It’s not a secret anymore. Companies have hiring needs and regulations that they must meet. When organizations need to meet these regulations their recruiting organization must have the tools to uncover the  proper candidates.

Where do you do as a recruiter to ensure you are providing a substantial slate of qualified candidates to your hiring teams but ensure that you are meeting diversity regulations? Do you do anything? We’ve all become familiar with Job board aggregators and what we like to call niche job boards.

But realistically how many recruiters truly understand how to leverage these niche boards and sites? Now the list below will not get you too candidates, but what it will do is get you to the companies that specifically set out build their workforce with the candidates that you are sourcing for.

How I approach this:

  1. Simply run you search on the appropiate site
  2. Facat find and gather the companies and job titles that they are hiring
  3. Cross reference the job titles that are being advertised on the sites on sites like LinkedIn, Jigsaw etc.
  4. Contact the candidates you’ve now uncovered as necessarry
