The great rush to outsource jobs to lower-cost labor centers on the other side of the globe appears to be over. While many of the jobs that have been outsourced to those locations will remain there forever, there is a new wave of outsourcing and relocating jobs closer to home.
We all know that most hiring managers don’t conduct broad-based, evidence-based interviews. Many base their judgments about candidate competency on some narrow combination of first impressions, technical knowledge, academics, and smarts. One sure way to improve your interview-to-hire ratio is to prep your candidates to cope with whatever questions or circumstances arise. If you handle the candidate prep well enough, you can also prep your clients without them even knowing it.
So Recruiters- do you Skype?
A great question and one recently asked by one of our RD Network experts @CMcKenzie77. I not only use Skype on a regular basis in running my desk, but the question reminded me on why I wanted to post some of the reasons you should be using it as well.
Tools come and go in the recruiting industry as technology continues to evolve and advance. It was not that long ago when recruiters would spend countless minutes standing by the fax machine waiting for important documents. Today- there is little doubt that social media has made a profound impact on how recruiters go about making deals, but one constant that has remained is the telephone. In fact a case can be made that it still tops the list of ‘must have’ tools, but once again advances in technology have also begun to challenge that claim.
It should come as no surprise that the candidates that I have had the opportunity to meet with face to face, increased my odds significantly in being successful in assisting with their search. Where some job sectors require recruiters to meet candidates face to face, most interviews still take place over the telephone.

60 seconds? Yep, and it wasn’t rocket science. Sourcing is not rocket science. In fact most people ask me what I do for a living and I just tell them I play on the internet and smile. Bottom line is that it’s my job to unearth names, contacts, emails, phones numbers and any intelligence I can for my clients.
Now you can apply this technique to most any industry especially sales or any occupation that requires the person to be available to client around the clock. Technical service professionals, sales people, pharmaceutical reps, banking professionals, security people, and technology and on call IT professionals etc. Another example of how I like to use lcoal meetups and confrences to source is with Ignite or LinkedIn Events.
