We are back with another installment of Recruiting Daily’s popular ‘Tips From A Biller” feature. Each month we sit down with some of the most influential recruiters and recruiting managers in the business and learn a bit about their keys to achieving success.
Last time we took a look at the Healthcare sector, but this round we shift the focus back to the IT sector as RD had the chance to speak with Tom Foti- Managing Partner at Weatherly Technologies.
WTECH Search is located in New York and is one of the premiere Information Technology Staffing firms in the country. They posses a unique and in depth knowledge of the business and markets that has enabled them to obtain their success in such a highly competitive field. WTECH also provides extra emphasis on building long lasting relationships with their clients in both the public and private sectors.
RD: Tom thanks for taking a few moments to speak with Recruiting Daily- can you share a bit about your recruiting background?
Foti: I went to college to pursue a business degree so I could ‘rule the world’, then graduated with a sociology degree wanting to ‘save the world’ and have been a recruiter for the past 15 years…go figure. I thoroughly enjoy this business and wouldn’t change it…some days I love it, and other days I love to hate it…
RD: I think most recruiters can relate to that and have those days at the desk. What is the best advice you ever received from a fellow recruiter?
Foti: Information is power – listen, ask questions, and then listen some more…so much can be learned by asking the right questions and really listening to the answers.
RD: That is some excellent advice! What is your most rewarding experience running a desk?
Foti: Referrals – hands down, nothing beats getting a referral –whether it is a candidate, client or just a friend needing some information… it is by far the greatest compliment! I read a great quote lately “Referrals come through who you are, not what you sell.”
RD: I might need to steal that one- a great quote that sums it up well. Any tip or advice you could share with recruiters out there?
Foti: Two things: Look up Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity and do the opposite and It’s a small world, and gets smaller every day.
RD: Great advice and very true about it being a small world. Lastly, if not recruiting- you would rather be?
Foti: I would rather be on the PGA Tour…I would prefer to be playing, but would settle for being on a golf course everyday without my blackberry.
As someone very much addicted to his own blackberry I understand completely. We really appreciate you taking the time to speak with RD and continued success with WTECH Search.
