Recruiting Daily’s popular “Tips From A Biller” feature is back again this month with another installment where we chat with professional recruiters. Each month RD sits down with some of the most influential people in o9ur business to learn a bit more about their keys to achieving success.

Mark Douyard is Executive Director of Physician Recruitment for River Medical Recuiting in New York.  River Medical is part of MedExcel USA, a provider of Emergency Medicine, Hospitalist, and Urgent Care Services since 1996.

Mark has an MBA in Marketing and Strategic Management.  He has considerable experience hiring, training, supervising, and developing recruiters, as well as running a desk!

RD: Mark thank you for the time you gave us today in your busy schedule.  Please start off by telling us what is your primary specialty area? (physician, IT, Financial, Nursing, Executive, etc)

Mark:  Permanent physician – emergency medicine, Hospitalist, PC, surgery and others, River Medical Recruiting also does executive level nursing

RD:  Lots of areas to cover!  Can you share a bit about your recruiting background/experience?

Mark:  Started with Weatherby/CompHealth over 10 years ago on a desk in Emergency Medicine; spent time in management in both their CT and FL offices and relocating to NY a little over 2 years ago to develop and run River Medical Recruiting, which is part of MedExcel USA, Inc., a practice management organization

RD:  You are definitely a veteran in our field.  What is the best advice you ever received from a fellow recruiter?

Mark:  Always ask the next question

RD:  Great, and what is your most rewarding experience running a desk?

Mark:
1.  Filling a challenging search
2.  talking to a candidate several years after a placement and getting a thanks because they still enjoy their job

RD:  That really is the best part.  How about a tip or advice you would share with a recruiter?

Mark:  Always asks the next question – never assume the candidate or client is giving you all the information you need to qualify them or help them make a decision

RD:  I agree.  If you missed a detail, it is because you didn’t ask enough questions!  If you were not recruiting what would you rather be doing?

Mark:  Teaching at a college

RD:  Professor Douyard does have a nice ring to it.  We really appreciate your time Mark and look forward to talking to you again.  As always thank you for all you do!
