Over the last few months there has been an excessive amount of chats taking place on Twitter. Cool, yes. Effective, maybe. Hard to follow along, yes. We posted in the past about some nice tools you can use to follow  some chats like TalentNet and JobHuntChat, but this is a new breed. A more private setting that you can participate or host some pretty meaningful chats. Check out Mike Vandervort’s new recommendation.

Want to conduct group chats about job search, recruiting, or other topics, but in a more private setting?   Then you need to check out the cool tool of the month, GroupMe.   What is really cool about GroupMe is that it frees you up from Twitter, yet provides the opportunity to conduct a group chat with up to 25 people.  This is pretty much summed up in their tag line:

GroupMe makes life easy for you and your groups. It’s your real-life network, in your pocket.”

It offers some other cool options as well, like:

Unique Numbers – Save your group’s unique number to your contacts, so your friends are always in your pocket.

You’re All Smart – Every phone is smart when you’re using GroupMe. As long as you can text, you’re all set. Just text into the provided number and you can start your own group chat that is private and mobile.

Can You Hear Me?  – When texting doesn’t cut it, call your group number to start an instant conference call. That’s convenient and can provide some immediate results.

GroupMe is in open beta, so try it!  I think you will like it!
