RSS technology is becoming more than popular – it’s almost a standard. How about recruiter RSS? Can we use this technology to enhance our recruiting business and reach more candidates?

As RSS feeds and readers become the ever standing Internet standard it is a wonder why in this day and age recruiters and talent acquisition departments still lack the sense to jump on the RSS train. Do you read your morning news online? Do you subscribe to sports illustrated or ESPN feeds to get daily updates on you favorite team? How about stocks? Why not RSS for recruiting?

If this describes you and you are a recruiter you should than you are ahead of the game. Just think how this RSS technology and cascading of information will benefit your sourcing, time to fill, cost per hire, automation and prevent time wasted! Truly harnessing the power of technology allows you to capture your target audience (Prospects or candidates) at every turn. Notifying candidates of openings, career fairs, informational sessions and knowledge sharing sessions without a formal request will engage non-employees to join or learn more about your world.

RSS is “really simple syndication” and acts as an on demand info spatter. Giving potential candidates the opportunity to create search agents, news feeds or watches will allow you to automatically target prospects that are targeting the information you are feeding as it becomes available. You can do this simply by using your job board or looking up your jobs on Indeed and then grabbing an RSS feed. If you can’t figure it out, it’s worth a call to your tech department. Your recruiter RSS feed is a quick way for candidates to see a real-time feed of your relevant jobs! Building and managing your talent communities just got simple! Automate, Automate, Automate!

Here are quick ways to build your recruiter RSS credibility:

  • Grab an RSS feed of your jobs
  • Promote your RSS in your company email signature line, website, and Linkedin profiles
  • Automate a Twitter account by posting your RSS through TwitterFeed
  • Grab an RSS feed of your company blog
  • Make an RSS feed of useful industry blogs that you recruit in – show this to your candidates and post your own blog inside this mashup
  • Grab an RSS feed for yourself from Indeed on your clients – keep informed of their needs

There are all kinds of ways to use RSS for recruiting, sourcing, and client development. It’s a real time technology (or close to real time) and it’s here to stay. RSS is better than searching the web in a lot of ways – you can bet that especially if you recruit for tech-savvy professionals, they are all over this technology. Have fun with it and let me know if there are other ways to incorporate RSS feeds into recruiting that work for you…
