Scheduling platform provider Calendly acquired Prelude, a company that focuses on automated scheduling and organizational tools used in talent acquisition. The deal is Calendly’s first acquisition. Although it doesn’t disclose many details about itself, Prelude claims to have hundreds of customers, according to TechCrunch. Among them are One Media, Duolingo, Cloudflare and Samsara. In a blog post, Prelude founder and CEO Will Laufer said his company will become “a core part” of Calendly’s recruiting solution. Prelude’s recruiting operations platform, he said, “will continue to grow in combination with Calendly’s seamless scheduling automation platform.” The deal hints at Calendly’s approach to building out specialized, vertical-focused products “starting with HR,” said TechCrunch. That’s a course change of sorts, because the company built its business on a general-toolkit approach. (The pandemic didn’t hurt its growth, for that matter.)
