linkedin recruiter

Sourcing School with Brian Fink and Ryan Leary is in session! Put your sourcing pants on.

Starting off with LinkedIn Recruiter.

It’s a great tool to have but it’s basically force-feeding an ATS that we don’t want or need. Brian’s thoughts on this are that they want to draw in the enterprise user. His prediction: LinkedIn Recruiter will become less of a sourcing tool in general, as they continue putting more functionality into the ATS side. Supporting this theory is a current promotion where 2 year LinkedIn Recruiter contract comes with the ATS for free for a year. They are really trying to push their way into that ATS enterprise market.

LinkedIn is already the mainstream platform for sourcing, and in response many companies like Loxo and Gem are showing up to help you source outside of it. They offer the alternative to LinkedIn, along with some pretty useful features. Gem especially is doing some great things with ATS and CRM. (This is not a sponsored podcast, by the way.)

What about Linkedin InMail

Did you know this dirty little secret? Microsoft owns LinkedIn

LinkedIn likes to claim InMail is more effective than email. Brian doesn’t see that as the case in reality, and has a better open rate with traditional email. Ryan adds that his notification is very basic, and he will typically just delete the notification. He checks his InMail in bulk when he remembers…and it’s also usually garbage.

So, perhaps the statistics are correct on the number of “eventual” opens, but what about responses?

Social Media Groups and user-submitted content

Social media groups are a great place to source for likeminded individuals. Brian likes to use Meetup to create groups online or in person, and now that feature is slowly being rolled out to the LinkedIn community. Ryan and Brian both agree that Facebook Groups are one of the most engaged platforms out there, due to the immense amount of funding. How many Social Media platforms buy a Superbowl ad? There’s a diminishing amount of time people are spending on the platform, so LinkedIn is trying different types of content formats.

Speaking of user-submitted content, Ryan does admit to enjoying scrolling through his LinkedIn feed in the morning. As for groups, he has almost 600,000 people in one of his LinkedIn groups, but he can’t do anything with it. Brian points out that LinkedIn Recruiter doesn’t have a content filter. The free version does. This is one of the ‘bones’ Fink wants to pick with the platform! Another issue is that people embed resumes and presentations on their profiles, which can’t be searched within LinkedIn.

We will leave you with today’s sourcing school lesson: “How to search for embedded resumes posted on LinkedIn”

Put this into a search:

linkedin recruiter

That will bring up about 500 resumes that people have posted to LinkedIn. You’re welcome.
