The gag is simple: One magic wand, one magic wish. What would you do to change the Talent Acquisition landscape to make it better? We were at HR Tech 2022 asking industry leaders about their opinions on this crazy industry and how to improve it.

Guest Esranur Kaygin of Hirize talks with William Tincup about changing how AI integrates into our HR technology. We need to align our needs as humans to what these software platforms offer.

This #HRTechConf 2022 series was hosted and brought to you by our friends and partners at Joveo!

Intro (00:01):

You’re listening to the RecruitingDaily Podcast. We are recording from HR Tech in Vegas, thanks to our friends and partners at Joveo. We are talking to some of the best minds in HR and business and digging into the most pressing issues in the workplace, so you don’t have to. Here’s your host, William Tincup.

William Tincup (00:19):

Ladies and gentlemen, this William Tincup, and we are broadcasting live from Joveo’s booth at HR Tech. I have Ezra on. Ezra, why don’t you do me a favor and introduce yourself real quick?

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (00:34):

Yeah, sure. Hi. How are you guys?

William Tincup (00:37):

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (00:38):

I’m Ezra. I’m the founder of Hirize. I’m in the HR tech industry since 2010. Crazy, huh?

William Tincup (00:47):

It’s dog years. Yes.

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (00:47):

William Tincup (00:49):

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (00:50):

Before that, I was a headhunter. Oof.

William Tincup (00:52):

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (00:53):

William Tincup (00:54):

Yes. Okay, so I hand you a magic wand.

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (00:58):

William Tincup (00:59):

You now have a magic wand. If you could change anything about talent sourcing, what would you change?

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (01:08):

Wow, that’s a strong question. That’s a good one. I think that, in my opinion, there are a lot of tools out there that develop amazing solutions to find better candidates, to find them easier and quicker and faster. But what I notice is that the technology behind it is sometimes lacking. I’m talking about the AI. You know?

William Tincup (01:37):

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (01:39):

As humans, our focus is on diversity, giving everybody an equal chance, but the technology is not there yet. It’s not supporting us in that way. Also, not our technology companies. That’s my wish. I would develop something that is better, is more in line with our needs as humans.

William Tincup (02:05):

That gets to personalization, that gets to speed, quality, essentially just creating a better candidate experience and better candidate fit using machine learning, NLP-

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (02:17):

William Tincup (02:17):

… actual AI.

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (02:18):

William Tincup (02:18):

Et cetera.

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (02:20):

Yeah. Yeah. Because I’m talking about this since 2010 because-

William Tincup (02:24):

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (02:24):

… I’m in AI-

William Tincup (02:26):

Oh yeah.

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (02:26):

… HR tech AI. What I see is that we do basic keyword matching.

William Tincup (02:30):

That’s right.

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (02:31):

We call that state-of-the-art stuff. But that’s the market. That’s what we have. That’s what is out there. That’s what developed. It did fill our needs when we were doing Monster Board. I love Monster Board. Sometimes I miss it. But then it was great. But now, it’s time to develop something better. We’re going to Mars, man.

William Tincup (02:57):

That’s right.

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (02:57):

We’re going.

William Tincup (02:57):

We should be-

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (02:57):

We could do it better.

William Tincup (02:57):

… able to personalize-

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (02:57):

William Tincup (02:57):

… [inaudible 00:02:58] just to candidates?

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (02:58):

Yeah. Yeah.

William Tincup (02:59):

This has been fantastic.

Esranur (Ezra) Kaygin (03:00):

William Tincup (03:00):

Thank you so much, Ezra.
