Recruiter.com Acquires Uncubed’s Tech Division

Recruiter.com acquired the technology solutions division of Uncubed, bringing the team and software behind the talent community and candidate engagement platforms into the fold.

The acquisition includes Uncubed’s Finalist, an online marketplace for sourcing and screening diverse early-professional software and data specialists, which the company positions as a tech-driven alternative to offline campus recruiting. In addition, Recruiter.com will add Uncubed’s job board technology and candidate engagement platform, which includes Mediabistro, the long-lived job board and professional community for media, content and creative professionals.

Recruiter.com CEO Evan Sohn said that in addition to technology, the acquisition brings with it clients (including NBC and Penguin Random House) and a network of more than 1 million candidates. “Having a significant foothold in software and data skill sets and in the media sector, we believe the acquisition will be a tremendous growth driver for the expansion of our on-demand recruiting solutions,” he said.

Uncubed CEO Chris Johnson will become Recruiter.com’s SVP of Marketplace.

Busy Times

Terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed, though Recruiter.com said it paid for the acquisition with restricted common stock, cash and a promissory note.

Earlier this month, Recruiter.com closed its public offering of 2.4 million units at a price of $5 each, for gross proceeds of $12 million. The company said it would invest the money in sales and marketing efforts, strategic acquisitions and general working capital.

Meanwhile, Uncubed released Refresh & Repurpose, a video product intended to help talent marketing teams address issues related to remote and hybrid work. “The goal here is to help employers better understand and communicate what elements of their culture actually keep employees engaged,” said Chief Creative Officer Tarek Pertew. “The reality is, there’s a lot of great stories, but it can be a challenge to source them internally.”
