Retaining Candidates in the Interview Process: RecruitingLive w/ Maisha Cannon

Retaining CandidatesThere is no greater day for a recruiter or sourcer than placing a great candidate. In contrast, there is no worse day than when you have the perfect candidate and somehow during the interview process, they withdraw their candidacy or reject the offer.

Why are you losing candidates after they have confirmed that they wanted consideration for the job you are presenting? Retaining candidates should not be a regular occurrence but it happens. The top reasons companies lose candidates are:

  1. Inaccurate Job Descriptions
  2. Lengthy Interview Process
  3. Irrelevant Pre-Hire Testing
  4. Bad Company Culture
  5. Competing Offers

Those are the reasons company’s lose candidates. But doesn’t explain why recruiters lose candidates. Recruiters often lose candidates because they did not do enough discovery. Recruiting is a people business; there is not much you can control. But you can find the answers to ‘what can go wrong’ before you even submitting the candidate. But it can not be done via text, instant message or even email. It can only be found out by building a relationship with the candidate.

Retaining Candidates

  • What questions should you be asking candidates?
  • How can you tell if candidates are not REALLY interested?
  • What can you legally ask?
  • What could go wrong?

During RecruitingLive Maisha Cannon will discuss with us how to ensure that we are retaining candidates during the interview process so that we can avoid any unwanted surprises.
